Research and find out what you can about "Cathedral and the Bizarre". Tell me in your own words what it is and why it might be important.

"Cathedral and the Bizarre" is an essay written by Eric S. Raymond. The essay is about open source software development vs. closed source. The author refers to closed source software as the "Cathedral" because the code is hidden from the public and made available only to specific software developers. Once the software is finished and ready to be seen the software is released but the code remains hidden.

He refers to open source software as the "Bizarre" because the code is free and available to all to tweak and develop. This goes against conventional means making it bizarre.

This is important because it started with Linus Torvalds and Linux. Linus started the Bizarre movement and it is now used by other software developers and companies.

7 things you don't need to know about me

My name is John. I am in your class and here are 7 things you don't need to know about me!

1) I really don't have a clue what Linux is. I assume it is an operating system for computers. I am taking this class so that in the future I can say I DO know what Linux is and how it works!

2) Aside from working on this blog I am getting my daughter ready for her kindergarten Valentine's Day party. Her name is Sarah, she is five years old and has a crush on some kid named Andrew. The reason she has her party today is because she is in year round school so she has all of next month off! Lucky her! Sarah also has a sister named Alexis who just turned four years old. Having both of my daughters has definitely given me some purpose in life and they are really the heart and soul of my existence.

3) The reason I am getting my daughter ready is because my wonderful wife is going to a hair appointment. I don't think that there is anything wrong with her hair but I figure she just wants to get it changed. She is so amazing and we will have been married for seven years in September.

4) Once I finish this blog assignment I am going to get a tattoo finished. It is a half sleeve on my left arm. It is a five headed dragon and a castle because I am a fantasy nut! I am so happy that it will be done today because I have been getting it worked on twice a month since June of last year.

5) After my tattoo appointment I am going to go work out at the gym. I guess it depends on how sore my arm is and if it is bleeding, I know, gross! Exercise is important to me because I enjoy being healthy and like everyone else I care about my physical appearance. Not to mention it helps in my line of work to be fit.

6) I suppose after the gym I will settle down for a little World of Warcraft action and get my Shadow Priest to level 80. I play "WOW" a lot and of course my main character was 80 a week after the expansion came out. Video games are a big part of me and also one of my vices.

7) Outlook just indicated I received a new email. It was from Ticketmaster telling me that the tickets for the Motley Crue concert next week have been mailed out. I enjoy music as much as the next person. I enjoy all kinds of music although I have to say that Rammstein is definitely the best!

So that's it, seven random pieces of information about me! Thank you for reading and have a great day!
